Hanging Dog Baptist Church Minutes 1857-1860

Data reprinted with permission from the Southwest North Carolina Genealogical Society Quarterly, now defunct, input by Diane Ramsey Miller. This data is not to be sold for any reason.

We are indebted to Reverend Garth Cook and the Hanging Dog Baptist Church for permitting us to publish the following historic records:

The church was organized May 4, 1844. Reverend George Washington Lovingood was the first pastor. He and his brother operated an iron ore forge in the Hanging Dog section in pioneer days.

Book examined for the last 12 years. Report: We your committee on the exam. of the book and acts of the church for the last 12 years beg leave to submit the following report as by the records on the book apears that the church in all cases has been very benevolent whilest at the same time it also apears that she has acted with an eye, single to the law of the Bible as are set forth in the New Testament of our lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and as for the ch. receving testamony from the world against one of Her members, we do not think that the church should make any uniform rule either in favor of worldly testamony or against it. But should be Her own Judge at the time present in all such cases, All of which is respectfully submited (G.W. Lovinggood Chairman)
