Above is John L. Stiles' tombstone. John tombstone, topped with a lamb is inscribed as follows:
John L. Stiles
Feb 13, 1845
October 11, 1913
A precious one from us is gone.
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our home no one can fill."
The back of the tombstone is engraved as follows:
John L. Stiles
Corporal Co. G, 3rd Regiment
Tennessee Mounted Infantry
May Anne Sutton, wife of John L. Stiles. May's tombstone is topped with a dove and is engraved as follows:
M.A. Stiles
wife of J.L. Stiles
April 14, 1841
June 22, 1917
Mother gone not dead but sleeping with Jesus and not forgotten.
Both, John and May's graves and tombstones were removed from Hiwassee Cemetery and relocated in Old Martin's Creek.
