Please note: Unconfirmed info. has come to me through another researcher who ended up researching my Payne family that he first thought was his. He kept the info. and sent it to me. Some recent info. is incorrect so I wouldn't want to live or die by his research. Looks like he did a lot of research on Greene Merriman & Chiefus Montgomery. I know of Green Merriman - as my father knew him. Chiefus is a strange name for our family. I know that Thomas & Jane are correct - info. from James Marion's death certificate. But, the Robert Payne has me stumped. Plus I don't have any real dates past James Marion. Since the Payne name is so common it is hard to tell them all apart.
